Huka Falls (Rotary) Ride

The best place to park up for this ride is at Spa Park off Spa Road. This is a double blessing as there is a really cool thermal creek running into the Waikato River just down the hill. Perfect for a freshen up when you are too shagged to shower after your return.

This is an single track of grade 3, 5km one way through cut-over exotic forest and with a few twists and turns. It will keep the more experienced riders interested. There are no major climbs, however a few short steepish bits will get the heart pumping. As with most Taupo trails, it is on pumice and stays in relatively good condition all year round. Return to town via the Redwoods, Rural Delivery and Spa Road or Bungy Trail.

If you want to make a bigger ride of it, carry on for another 7km to Aratiatia and check out the spill gate opening every 2 hours from 10:00am during summer. Be aware that this ride is a little tougher, so if you struggled to ride here, it is best to stop and head back to town.
